Bengaluru Traffic Survival Guide 🛵
Whether you are already living in Bengaluru, you come from there or plan to make the city your next home, you must know that Bengaluru is not only plagued by traffic but it is actually a way of life in this place. Sometimes it can take as long as 30 minutes to cover 5 km. If it's a morning meeting time of 9:00 AM, then you may have to get up from your home at 7:30 AM. Often, even a brief journey turns into an extended one when it begins to rain.
TomTom data revealed an average of over 36 minutes to complete the journey of 10 km in Bengaluru in 2025. On average this distance takes 45 minutes during the rush hour in the evening. The bad news: You have to commute to work every day. The good news: You can make your daily commuting easier.
While you may not be able to get rid of traffic, you can get good at handling it. To put it simply, here's a few easy method that can assist you to remain calm when you're navigating the chaotic streets of Bengaluru.
1. Get some rest and leave
home a little earlier:
The traffic in Bengaluru does
change abruptly due to some reason such as in an accident, or at a roadwork,
due to rain or a car breakdown or an unexpected rise in traffic. Running 20 –
30 minutes early will make the morning so much happier! It also has another
benefit – getting first to the scene is better than being stuck in traffic,
checking the clock every 5 seconds.
2. The Distance alone is not a reliable
indicator:
A common error is just considering the distance. You might see Only 12 km. Sounds easy, right? Not always. It may take longer than expected to cover 12 km in Bengaluru. Besides the actual route, the time of day, traffic signals, construction work and weather can make a difference. But do not say to the boy, “How many kilometres?”, but say: What does the actual time of course will be? Look at the live traffic before you leave, and read up on different routes.
3. Make a regular route:
If you go to the same college, office or business place every day pass the time to find out about the route you take. You will begin to come to the realization that: Identifies what roads are busy in the morning. Junctions that are frequently slow. At locations where traffic abruptly increases When it rains where is it better to drive? Where it is safe to stop for fuel & food supplies Don't need to be a traffic expert. After a couple of weeks you'll inevitably begin to wonder, I think if I take this road, now, I'm going to stay now. It's a very helpful experience.
4. Don't Start Without the Use of Google Maps:
Do preemptively plan
ahead. Please inspect the path before departing home. Pay attention to
traffic lights and compare options for navigating the traffic. Sometimes the
fastest route isn't the shortest! Also, don't continuously change your route
every few minutes if another new road pops onto the scene and you think that
one may be quicker. Driving slower is sometimes better than taking what's
seemingly vacant small road but turns into a blockage.
5. If at all possible
change the time you are travelling to work:
Peak hours are indeed peak hours for a reason. The roads are filled with lots of people starting and finishing their work in the morning and evening hours. According to the TomTom data, Bengaluru's traffic situation was extremely congested on average, and during peak hours, such as in the evening, it was even slower. Even a 30-60 minute time change to get to school or work might help if it is at a time that works for your college or school or your office. For example: Instead of leaving at 8:30 AM, try 7:45 AM. If you have the time, arrive at the station about a half hour before the specified time if traffic light-ups slowly, rather than arriving at the time. The easiest way to outsmart the traffic is simply NOT to be on the road at the same time everyone else is.
6. Two-Wheeler:
Don't
Take Unnecessary Risks In the eyes of many commuters of Bengaluru, the simplest
mode of transport is a two-wheeler. However, riding a bike is not the time to
push through all the crotches. Don't: Ride on the right side of the road on the
sidewalk .Ride beside buses. Suddenly change lanes Be ready for traffic
signals and proceed quickly Drive the wrong way up the street or path to get to
the destination. Continue to look down at your cell phone while driving Attempt
hazardous overtaking solely for a few seconds offering. Do dangerous overtaking
to save a few seconds. When faced with an accident, just a few seconds waiting
is not worth it. Hear the rule and remember to wear your helmet correctly, to
be alert and to give yourself sufficient room. Security and safety getting home
is much more important than getting home 5 minutes early.
7. If you don't fall out
with every driver:
All Bengaluru commuters should bear this in mind. Someone cuts you off. The use of an indicator is missed. An auto suddenly stops. Bike appears out of nowhere. Then there's the moment when all of a sudden you're angry. However, filled with frustration, you will spend a longer time commuting. There is little ability to dictate other driver's driving practices. You can do something about your reactions. Take a breath, stay back and move forward. Driving is an already stressful experience. You don't need to do any more stressing.
8. Actually think about the Metro:
When It Makes Sense For those who want to reach destinations that are well connected by Namma Metro, it may be a good idea to think of it. Do not have to take the metro on all of the way to your destination. Combination of two or more modes is allowed.
For example: Bike → Metro → Walk or Auto → Metro → Walk. This could sometimes be much simpler than sitting in traffic for the whole trip. As Bengaluru's connectivity in terms of transportation is growing, consider if public transport can serve your everyday needs or not.
