How Did Bengaluru Get Its Name? 🤔🌿

According to a popular legend, in the 12th century, King Hoysala Veera Ballala II was hunting in the forests near present-day Bengaluru. He lost his way and became tired and hungry. An elderly woman offered him a simple meal of boiled beans.
Grateful for her kindness, the king is said to have named the place “Benda Kaalu Ooru”, which means “Town of Boiled Beans” in Kannada.
Over time, “Benda Kaalu Ooru” gradually became Bengaluru. During British rule, the name was anglicized to Bangalore, which became widely known around the world.
In 2014, the Karnataka Government officially restored the city’s original Kannada name—Bengaluru—to honor its history and cultural roots.
Whether you call it Bangalore or Bengaluru, the city remains the same—a place full of innovation, greenery, culture, and endless opportunities.
