A Foodie’s Guide to VV Puram

For food enthusiasts, Bengaluru has one place that you just shouldn't miss out on: VV Puram Food Street. Thindi Beedi is a tiny and energetic street, located in Basavanagudi, which is one of the most popular street-food havens in Bengaluru.

Basically, Thindi Beedi translates to “food street” in Kannada language. As soon as the night falls, you'll find the street teeming with food stalls, ravenous customers, bubbling pans, tantalizing aroma and long lines. And the best part? So many food items to sample!

When it comes to food, VV Puram is a heaven for every foodie – from crispy dosas to paddu, chaats, holige, corn, pav bhaji and drinks, there is no dearth of something new to taste in VV Puram. So, it's time for one of those short walks in VV Puram and checking out food stalls!

1. Start With a Dosa:

One of the most obvious, let's begin with dosa! Vendors will roll the dough out on very large hot griddles, add butter / oil to the griddle then make filling and serve it hot with a chutney. There is a variety to choose from and some creative versions of masala dosa. The soundy effect of the dosa hitting the hot tawa and the smell of butter and spices again gets you hungry.

2. Try Paddu:

Don't have any experience with paddu yet? Then, this is your opportunity to try it! These bites are small, round and crispy outside while soft inside and are from South India. Are perfect, but deadly simple. Giving them chutney should make you realize why you can find them so popular as street food! One of the traditional south Indian dishes that can be seen at VV Puram is ‘Paddu'.

3. Don't Miss the Sweet Corn:

The Sweet Corn can be a whole food experience. Including various flavors and combinations, it serves as an interesting sustenance to savor during strolls around. Also an option if you've already had a large meal and just need a snack. Yes, it's a food street walk and hot corn is the thing to eat when walking through a crowd.

4. Masala Puri & Chaats:

Sample some classic street food delights such as:
• Masala puri
• Pani puri
• Bhel puri
• Other chaats

They are the ideal choice for the evening snack, due to the crispy puris and the tangy and spicy flavours of chutneys. Other foods associated with VV Puram's food scene are Bangarpet style chaats. Only be ready when the spice suddenly gets to you!

5. Akki Roti:

For a more traditional option, opt for akki roti. Akki roti is a darn common food of Karnataka region and is mostly prepared using rice flour with chutney or with other combination, it is an ordinary dish in Karnataka food. Easy, Easy, filling and with a homely feel of Karnataka food. It's definitely a must try for those who are interested in delving into the traditional food culture of Bangalore.

6. Try Holige:

Once you have enjoyed all your spicy foods, it's time for a sweet one! 🍯 Holige or obbattu is a traditional sweet of the Karnataka cuisine prepared with a thin layer of dough and a sweet filling. Several different varieties, such as coconut options, are available. So it is soft, it is sweet and it's ideal for the end of the nourishing experience. After all, by sharing, you'll still have food to eat that you haven't had yet!

Final Thoughts:

The street is busy. Vendors are always doing something to cook the things. And there's lots of movement. So, if you are in Bengaluru and somebody asks you, “Where should we go for some proper street food?” You don't need to look it up, you know it. VV Puram Food Street.
